Course Aim (all learning environments)
This Refresher course is aimed at those that have already completed the full 2 day or 1 day MHFA courses. Although the knowledge gained from the initial course may be always with you, over time some people may need to be refreshed on aspects of the original course, especially if the skills gained have not been regularly used. In addition, new ways of thinking and different delivery styles will probably help those attending to improve their skills to help others and their workplace.
Course Objective
Upon successful completion of the training program and final assessment, Mental Health First Aiders will have:
- An in depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
- Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
- Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
- Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
- Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support – whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix
A theory based course over 4 hours, typically carried out over half a day, either on-line or in a classroom but both are tutor lead. All those attending all training sessions will receive a nationally recognised certificate which is valid for 3 years.
Each candidate will receive, an ‘Adult MHFA Refresher Manual and combined Workbook’ colour reference manual which is a clear, concise and valuable review tool for future reference.
